The Lego Maniacs Camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Adventure Film Camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be held for five days, Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21.
Lego Maniacs Camp
This camp is absolutely fun, cool and perfect for kids that love Legos. It is limited to 15 participants, ages 6-8. Four days of the Lego Maniacs Camp are focused on Lego animation. Working in teams of three, the campers will plan, build and then film a stop motion animation using Lego mini figs and Lego brick sets. Once the animation is complete, these young filmmakers will learn how to add sound, titles, and the all-important credits for their own Lego creations. One day of the camp will be spent building and programming robots using the Lego Mindstorms System.
Adventure Film Camp
Pirates? Outer space? Zombies? In the Adventure Film Camp, Box Of Light Digital Arts Studio will help kids, ages 9-12, make the most amazing adventure movie ever. They will learn how to frame a shot, act for the camera, structure a dramatic or comic scene, edit video, lay in sound effects, and even create a simple musical score. The camp is limited to 12 participants.
The Digital Arts Camp from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Stop Action Animation Camp from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be held for five days, Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28.
Digital Arts Camp
Limited to 12 participants, this camp will give kids, ages 8-12 a taste of digital arts processes, which could be their future career. There is a different challenge every day. Being covered are: Claymation, green screen, film, digital books, and robotics. Youth will sculpt, build, film and program.
Stop Action Animation Camp
One of Box Of Light’s most popular classes, Stop Action Animation, limited to 12 participants ages 8-12, is extremely “hands-on” mixing art, film, and computers. Move over Tim Burton, there are new filmmakers on their way. Rand Whipple will show the campers how to make the inanimate world come to life as clay, paper, paint, and even bottle tops get up and move across the landscape the kids create. They will make animated movies, add sound and credits and, in the end, their films will live online on the studio’s website.
Film Screening Festival
The camps will end with a Film Screening Festival on Friday, July 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The young filmmakers can invite their friends and families to this special screening on the last day of camp. They’ll walk the red carpet, pose for the paparazzi and enjoy films from all campers at the Deane Center.
