Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse
March 14 at 6:30 pm
FREEGet ready for the Solar Eclipse! Cherry Springs State Park and the Coudersport Public Library are partnering to offer two programs in March, so that all ages can learn about the very rare Solar Eclipse that will occur on April 8!
On Thursday, March 14, bring preschoolers to the Library for Storytime: Eclipses for a fun story time and craft! From 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., we will read Total Solar Eclipse by Jayme Sandberg, illustrated by Kathleen Gadekin. Afterwards, kids will create an eclipse-themed craft to take home, while learning about the solar eclipse, and how to view it safely.
Then, on Thursday evening, March 14, at 6:30 p.m., ages elementary through adult are invited to visit the Library for a more in-depth look, during the Exploring Eclipses program. Whether you’re planning on checking out the eclipse in-person, or are just interested in learning more about them, this program will help you make the most of your eclipse-viewing day. We’ll learn about what an eclipse is, some history of eclipses, how to safely view an eclipse, and what to expect on April 8. Eclipse glasses and pinhole viewers will be available to program participants, while supplies last. (Any extra glasses will be available to the public following the program.) This program is best for teens and adults, though families with younger children are welcome to attend.
Both programs are FREE, no pre-registration required (however, registration for the Preschool event would be appreciated; register for the upcoming Preschool Story Hour series and the Preschool Eclipse workshop at the same time!). In the event of inclement weather, the eclipse story time will be rescheduled to Thursday, March 21, and the evening program to Tuesday, March 19.
For more information about the programs, email Susan at sschenck@pa.gov or call her at 814-435-3580. For more info on the location or to speak with someone at the Library, email coudersportlibrary@gmail.com, or call 814-274-9382.
Thanks to the folks at Cherry Springs State Park for partnering with us to make these wonderful programs available, and to the Genesee Area Library for sharing their supply of eclipse glasses with us!
